INVISALIGN

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear plastic aligner that has the same purpose as traditional metal braces, but are used instead of metal wires and brackets. The plastic that is used for the aligners is lightweight, BPA free, and designed to fit perfectly in each patient's mouth.

INVISIBLE Patients will be the only one that knows that they're wearing a clear plastic aligner because they are almost undetectable. No wires or brackets.

CONVENIENT Invisalign is removable which means that there are no limitations to eating, and brushing and flossing are no proble.

COMFORTABLE Invisible aligners are smooth, so there is no irritation to the inside of of lips and cheeks, as there is from the wires or brackets of braces.

EFFECTIVE When worn according to the recommendations of Dr. Baldwin, Invisalign can be as effective as traditional braces.

WHAT IS THE INVISALIGN PROCESS?

  1. After an initial free consultation with Dr. Baldwin, she will determine if Invisalign treatment is appropriate for each patient. Invisalign is suitable for Teens and Adults, but not children.
  2. Dr. Baldwin and her team will use a digital scanner called the iTero Scanner to capture digital images of the patient's teeth, no goopy and sticky impressions. Then, a set of plastic aligners will be specially designed to fit each patient's teeth and they will be given a set of new aligners every two weeks.
  3. Since these are removable, patients can take them out when they brush and floss their teeth and when they eat and drink.
  4. Over time and as the aligners continue to change, teeth will move little by little.
  5. Patients will have scheduled visits every month or two in order to chart their progress and receive the next sets of aligners.
  6. Once treatment is complete, Invisalign retainers are fabricated and patients are encouraged to wear their retainers to keep their smile for a lifetime. Click here to read about the importance of retainers.
  • Wear invisible aligners at least 22 hours per day. Teeth will not move into proper alignment if they are not worn as prescribed.
  • Insert and seat aligners with the fingers to ensure they are properly placed. Do not “bite” aligners into place as this can result in bending or cracking aligner if not correctly aligned.

  • Clean aligners with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste every time teeth are brushed. Soak aligners once a day for 2 minutes in Hydrogen Peroxide, to keep aligners clean and odor free. Never try to sanitize them with boiling water, bleach or putting them in the dishwasher
  • Invisible aligners limit the natural cleaning and remineralizing effect of saliva, so it is very important to brush and floss after eating.
  • Aligners are made of plastic and can be ruined by heat, so it is important to not expose them to excessive heat including hot beverages.
  • Place aligners in their case when not being worn. Aligners placed in a napkin, or left out in the open are easily lost or accidentally discarded.
Call our office immediately if aligners get lost or damaged, so that they can be replaced and treatment can continue as planned.
